AFTERMATH
The festival took place on the river Shannon in Limerick city on the 8th of June 2014. The festival was in celebration of Limericks boating and river culture and held in memory of Pat Lawless to recognise his achievements.
Pat passed away peacefully as a result of a heart attack in his sleep on the 20th of August 2010.
He will always be remembered with fondness.
His achievements individual, brave and inspiring.
May he rest at peace forever in the great ocean of eternity.
May a scattering of stars lie over him and may he hear
in the wind the music of all your voices
Pat thoroughly enjoyed spending time with his family and friends once he returned home from sailing around the world.
On the 22nd July www.patlawlesssolocircumnavigator.com was launched in the Hunt Museum by Keith Wood. The purpose of the website is to place Pat’s sea journals, camcorder recordings at sea, photographs, interviews, newspaper articles and correspondence etc. on this website to give the public access to the voyages. We hope this website could help us find the book and also that the website will serve as a memory to his achievements 20 years from the date he sailed back into Limerick, at the age of 70, after having spent 3 years and 3 days fulfilling his lifelong dream by sailing around the around solo.
